Why daycare is different from school
A five-year-old can say their name and their teacher's name. A fifteen-month-old cannot do either, which changes what a label has to do.
A printed name solves the laundry pile. It does not help on an outing to the park, at a handover to a staff member who has not met you, or in the ten minutes before someone works out who a wandering toddler belongs to. A scannable code reaches the person who actually knows: you.
Most settings ask for a full change of clothes on site, sometimes two, plus nap bedding, bottles, cups and a coat. That is a far longer list than a school uniform, and it is the reason parents underbuy labels on the first order.

Getting set up
Most parents do the whole thing in front of the television the night before induction.
Work through the joining letter rather than guessing. The spare change of clothes is the part people forget, and it is often the largest group on the list.
Iron-on labels go onto suitable garment fabric or onto the care tag already inside the item. Bottles, cups and lunch boxes need a sticker on a clean, dry hard surface, and those are not on sale yet.
Enter the bundle code from your pack, add your child's first name and the numbers you want a finder to reach. Add a second parent or a grandparent as backup.
Choose whether a finder sees your details directly or only a message form. Many parents at this age publish a first name and one phone number and nothing else.
What a finder sees
There is nothing for the finder to install and no account to create. They point a phone at the code and see exactly what you chose to publish. If your number changes, you change it once and every label already ironed in stays current.
Questions parents ask
Inside the building, honestly, no. A printed name is enough for a key worker to put the right cardigan in the right cubby, and any name label does that. The code earns its place on the things that leave: the coat on an outing, the bag on the walk home, the comforter that ends up on a bus. That is the moment a name alone tells a stranger what your child is called but not who to call.
More than a school child, because most settings keep a full change of clothes on site and ask for bottles, nap bedding and a coat to be labelled too. Not the iron-on ones. Iron-on labels are for suitable garment fabric or for the heat-safe care tag inside clothing. Bottles, cups and lunch boxes need a sticker made for clean hard surfaces. They do not need to. Staff use the printed name exactly as they would with any other label. The code is there for whoever finds the item or your child outside the setting, and it works from any phone camera with nothing installed.
Only if you choose to publish it. You can show your saved details to anyone who scans, or hide them behind a message form so a finder can contact you without seeing your number. You can change that setting at any time without replacing a single label.
